Color Guard

Color Guard is a unique blend of athleticism and performance art. The School Color Guard is a fundamentals program open to all  Middle School students. The goal of the Guard program is to function as an integral building block of the Houston High School Color Guard program as well as to promote school spirit and gain experience in Color Guard competitions and parade performance.

Membership in the Band or prior experience is NOT required. The art of Color Guard performance has evolved over the years and contains large dance components and extensive choreography of flag spinning/tossing and some rifle work set to music. Ensemble members will learn ballet, pop, and classical dance movements as part of their routine.

The Color Guard Season runs September to March but is divided into two components, Fundamentals/Parade Prep and Winter Guard. Practices take place on Mondays and Wednesdays after school with some Saturdays required throughout the season. They will attend local competitions (e.g., Arlington High School, Collierville High School, Houston High School) during the Winter Guard season.

For more information on the HMS Color Guard, please email the HMS Band Director, Mr. Spencer Nesvick @ spencer.nesvick@gmsdk12.org.
