7th Grade Band
This ensemble is comprised of all of the 7th grade band students across the woodwinds, brass, and percussion sections. Each section meets at a different time throughout the week during the course of the regular school day.
Members of this ensemble participate in two off-site concert performances, one at the end of each semester. All sections will meet together for rehearsal once or twice after-school in the band room before each concert. The rehearsals and the concert are mandatory functions that contribute to the student's grade for band class. Students will need to wear black pants (no jeans, belt recommended), black socks and shoes, and the purchased band shirt to each concert performance.
Instruments are assigned from those listed by the student on the class request form each year. Returning band students should discuss instrument changes with Mr. Nesvick prior to completing the form. Students new to band will receive notification of their instrument assignment in advance of the school year and are required to secure this instrument unless otherwise noted. Instruments need not be brand new, they simply need to work, so decide what works best for your family in terms of borrowing, renting or buying. It is typically best to ensure the student's ability and desire match up with an instrument before investing too heavily. Please ensure your student has his/her instrument by the start of the second week of school.
7th grade band members are strongly encouraged to join additional ensembles offered here at HMS: Pep Band and Color Guard. These are all wonderful ways to get involved and bond with classmates that have similar interests.
The $150 fee for this ensemble in the 2018-2019 school year includes the classroom instruction booklet, a brand-new band shirt, concert facility rentals, sheet music for all performances, festival and competition entrance fees, additional educational instruction for students, as well as the purchase and maintenance of band equipment, larger instruments, color guard equipment, and marching uniforms.
Please contact Mr. Nesvick if you need to discuss your student's attendance, instrument assignment, progress or any other aspect of 7th grade band.
